Great Lakes & Glaciers

In the Midwest and Northeast geologist have found ancient seashores from giant lakes and inland seas larger than the Great Lakes that covered a lot of this area only a few thousand years ago. The small natural lakes and ponds that dot this region are not found anyplace else in the country, and neither are the unusual mounds and meandering hills. How did glaciers form the topography of this area?
