Temperate Deciduous Forest: Kirtland's Warbler

Kirtland's warblers are endangered birds that live in jack pine forests of Michigan. Their habitat has shrunken over time. They are further threatened by cowbirds who lay their eggs in warbler nests. The warblers then raise cowbird young instead of their own. Kirtland's warblers are one of more than 100 species of woodwarblers. They are small, active birds. They have brightly colored feathers and short thin bills. Their usual nest is tiny and cup-shaped; they lay two to five (rarely six) speckled eggs.
