Savanna and Rain Forest: Black Rhino

Black rhinoceroses live in a variety of habitats from rain forests to the dry scrublands. The black rhinoceros stands 5 1/2 feet tall and weighs up to 4,000 pounds. Rhinoceroses of all types are considered endangered. There was once a large population of rhinos in eastern and southern Africa. Rhinos are killed illegally for their horns. Powdered rhino horn is believed to have medicinal value in some Asian countries.
