Big-Eared Ozark Bat

Bats are flying mammals. This bat lives in and around the Ozark Mountains of Missouri. Bats fly and feed at night. They find their way through dark by using echolocation. Bats usually live in large groups called colonies. They send out short, high-frequency pulses of sound. These sounds are usually well above the range that humans can hear. Bats listen to the echoes returning from nearby objects. They use the echoes to determine the direction, distance, speed, size or other properities of objects that get their attention.
